CHAMP KELLY NAMED HORSEMEN GENERAL MANAGER

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former standout wide receiver/defensive back Anthony “Champ” Kelly has been named the General Manager of the Lexington Horsemen, owner Lennie House announced Monday.

Kelly has been a member of the Horsemen organization since its inception. The former University of Kentucky wide receiver played four seasons for Lexington (2003-06) and was a two-time United Indoor Football All-Star. Last season, Kelly was the co-recipient of the UIF Man of the Year Award, which recognizes players who are not only leaders on the field, but also off the field and in the community.

Kelly led the Horsemen in tackles each of the past two seasons, including holding the franchise’s single-season tackle record with 84.5 stops in 2006. In 2005, he led the squad and was tied for the league lead in interceptions during the regular season with nine. He returned those picks for 188 yards.

In addition to his front-office duties, Kelly also will work as an assistant coach in charge of the team’s wide receivers.

Kelly was a four-year letterwinner as a wide receiver at UK from 1998-2001. He played in 37 career games and finished his career with 18 receptions for 289 yards with one touchdown. As a senior, Kelly had 10 receptions for 225 yards with his lone touchdown coming as a 62-yard reception against Tennessee. He was named to the SEC Good Works Team his senior season for his community service efforts.

Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Kentucky. A native of Graceville, Fla., Kelly was born Nov. 27, 1979 and resides in Lexington.
