COOPER TD GIVES HORSEMEN LAST-SECOND WIN AGAINST ROCK RIVER

ROCKFORD, Ill.

Lexington quarterback Kewan Dewberry's 26-yard pass to receiver John Cooper with nine seconds remaining Saturday lifted the Horsemen to a 35-31 win against rival Rock River in the MetroCentre in Rockford, Ill.

The Horsemen (4-2), who trailed 31-28 with 28 seconds remaining after a late touchdown by the Raptors, were backed up in a third-and-16 situation with time running out when Dewberry connected with Cooper for the game-winner. Rock River looked as if it had a chance to score with one tick left on the clock, but Lexington's Eric Norris picked off signal-caller Ben Sankey's pass in the end-zone as the final horn sounded.

"Kewan did a great job of getting out of trouble," Horsemen head coach Mike Zuckerman said of the winning scoring strike. "He threw it up and Cooper was able to jump up and bring it down. We had seen Kewan throw passes like that before and that's why we brought him in this season."

Lexington avenged two regular-season losses to Rock River last season with the win.

"I am glad we were able to come out in the second half and make adjustments," Zuckerman said. "We were able to move the ball and our defense really stepped up in the first half to keep us in the game. That's something that didn't happen when we lost here last year and it really carried us tonight."

The Horsemen have a bye week next week before returning home for a re-match with Rock River on May 12. Kick-off between Lexington and the Raptors is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT and the game will be carried live on 101.5 FM The Planet and WVLK 590 AM with Randy Wilson.
