LEXINGTON HORSEMEN RETURN HOME TO HOST RIVER CITY

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a two-game road swing, the Lexington Horsemen return to the friendly confines of Rupp Arena looking to get back on the winning track as they play host to River City on Saturday. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. EDT and the game will be carried live on 101.5 FM The Planet and WVLK 590 AM with Randy Wilson.

The Horsemen (5-4), who are currently in a three-way tie for second place in the United Indoor Football Eastern Conference, are coming off a 39-28 loss at Sioux City last Saturday. Quarterback Kewan Dewberry struggled against the league’s leader in pass defense as the signal-caller was 17-of-24 for just 111 yards with two interceptions.

Lexington ranks third in the UIF in scoring offense, averaging 45.2 ppg with 59 touchdowns. In addition, the Horsemen have seven two-point conversions this season, most in the league. Led by standout kick returner William Mulder, who racked up 143 all-purpose yards against Sioux City last week, the Horsemen rank first in the league in kickoff returns, averaging 23.4 yards per return.

The Horsemen are 1-2 all-time vs. River City in franchise history, having dropped a 46-39 decision to the Rage in St. Charles, Mo., on March 31 at Family Arena. The Rage were formerly known as the Show-Me Believers during the 2004 campaign when the two teams met twice, splitting the series at 1-1.

River City also is 5-4 on the season, but after winning its first five games of the season, is currently on a four-game losing skid. Most recently, the Rage, who had a bye week last week, dropped a 55-28 contest at Rock River on May 19.

After posting a strong start in their inaugural campaign, the Rage have really struggled, leading the league in both penalties and sacks against. Running back Muhammad Abdulqaadir, who caught the winning touchdown in the team’s early-season win against Lexington, ranks second in the league in rushing yards, averaging 57.6 yards per game on the ground with 15 scores.

The game will also be televised on a tape-delay basis on PAX cable channel 22 in Lexington on Wednesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. EDT with Gary Ball and Dougie Allen.

Complete results and a recap of Saturday’s game will be available at www.lexingtonhorsemen.com.
